At Stream Tracker, I keep an eye on where to watch cult classics and blockbusters alike — including Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop. Set in a violent, near‑apocalyptic Detroit, the film follows street cop Alex Murphy as Omni Consumer Products turns him into a crime‑fighting cyborg to test their prototype, only for RoboCop to wrestle with his directives and ultimately turn on his corporate masters and crime lord Clarence Boddicker. The 1987 sci‑fi action staple earned critical praise and won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, among other genre honours. Synopsis
In a crime-riddled, near-apocalyptic Detroit, the powerful conglomerate Omni Consumer Products wins a government contract to privatize the police. To test their experimental law-enforcement cyborgs, they engineer a deadly encounter that sends patrolman Alex Murphy into a confrontation with crime boss Boddicker, intending to use Murphy’s body to support their unproven RoboCop prototype. When the newly reconstructed officer becomes aware of the company’s corrupt schemes, he rebels against his creators.
