The Last Station

Synopsis

Set in 19th-century Russia, this period drama tracks celebrated novelist Leo Tolstoy as he grapples with the tension between public acclaim and material comfort and his growing commitment to a life of spiritual austerity. His wife and muse, Countess Sofya, becomes convinced that one of Tolstoy’s most devoted disciples persuaded him to sign a new will that bequeaths his writings and estate to the Russian people. Driven by jealousy and the fear of losing her place in his life and legacy, she resorts to calculated seduction to unmask or discredit the disciple, setting off a tense battle of loyalty, passion, and moral conviction.
