The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob

Synopsis

Victor Pivert, a loud, prejudiced French factory owner, is kidnapped by Slimane, a charismatic Arab insurgent. To flee both Slimane’s pursuing enemies and the police—who wrongly believe Pivert is a killer—the two men adopt rabbinical disguises. Mistaken identity escalates when Pivert is taken for Rabbi Jacob, a much-loved spiritual leader returning to France after three decades in America, plunging them into a whirlwind of celebrations and expectations. Meanwhile, Pivert’s dentist wife suspects he’s abandoning her for another woman, their daughter prepares for marriage, and an entire Parisian neighborhood enthusiastically prepares to honor the supposedly homecoming rabbi, turning the escape into a comedy of errors.
