Synopsis

Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary otaku, is pulled into a fantasy realm after finding a mysterious book in a library. Chosen as one of the Four Legendary Heroes, he is given the Shield and charged—alongside the Sword, Spear, and Bow heroes—with defending the world from devastating recurring Waves. Expecting a grand adventure, Naofumi sets out with the others, but is soon betrayed and left penniless, disgraced, and unable to trust anyone. Forced to fend for himself, he frees and trains a young demi-human slave named Raphtalia and faces the Waves and a hostile society together with her. Will he manage to turn his fate around and find justice in a world that has cast him out?
