Synopsis
A Spanish Jesuit ventures into the South American interior to establish a mission and bring faith to the local indigenous communities. His efforts intersect with a brutal slave hunter whose encounter with the priest sparks a profound change; the reformed man becomes a devoted member of the mission. When the distant Crown cedes the territory to Portugal, the mission and its people face a violent takeover, forcing them to defend the fragile society they have created against Portuguese forces.
